
Av. Sarmiento entre Av. Colombia y Av. Santa Fe
It is one of the places with the largest movement of people and transport in the entire city. In the center of the square is the monument to the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, a replica of the one found in Brescia, Italy. In the mid-nineteenth century, Garibaldi lived in different South American countries. In 1842 and 1843 he fought under the command of a naval force that defended Montevideo from Rosas' attacks. In the surroundings of the square, the "mateos", horse carriages that make tourist walks.
