Cerrito 760 entre Viamonte y Av. Córdoba

Since their first performance on May 25, 1908, in which Giuseppe Verdi's opera Aída was presented, the most important directors, singers and dancers in history, such as Igor Stravinsky, Herbert von Karajan, Daniel Barenboim, Maria, have performed Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, Rudolf Nureyev, Julio Bocca and Maximiliano Guerra.

Its construction, which lasted almost 20 years and involved 1500 people, is the work of architects Francesco Tamburini, Victor Meano and Jules Dormal. According to the great conductors, the Colón is one of the best theaters of its kind. The horseshoe room generates a perfect sound distribution and the three box floors designed with soft materials - fabrics, wood, carpets - achieve optimal absorption. On the upper floors, hard materials such as marble and bronze were used to perfect the reflection of the waves. Its dome was decorated by the Argentine painter Raúl Soldi and it took 41 days to do so.

In 2008, the City Government began an in-depth restoration, in order to restore it to its full splendor and, at the same time, endow it with the most important technological advances. This work allowed the Theater to be reopened for the bicentennial of the Nation, in 2010. Currently, the Theater building also houses different workshops where productions of its shows are held, as well as the Superior Institute of Art, recognized throughout the world and where future lyrical singers and dancers are formed, as Julio Bocca and Maximiliano Guerra did.
